Canadian improvements to the immigration process already showing positive results

Over 260 000 people were granted Canadian citizenship in 2014 – an increase of around 90% over the preceding year.

Some, such as the ‘ministry of citizenship and immigration’, are attributing this early success to the recent improvements in the overall immigration process.

Fees have been increased from 300 CAN per application to 530 CAN which should help reduce the backlog (already down 17% from the preceding year).

The new process, which took effect August 1st, 2014, will merge the three (3) major steps into one comprehensive one; over 115 000 people have already reaped the rewards.

Canada boasts an average of 250 000 immigrants per year and that number is rising; over 1,550,000 people have been granted citizenship since 2006 alone.
